Lucky dream
Fish
What it means
Catching fish is a lucky dream of gains and opportunity — the bigger the catch, the bigger the reward. A lively fish or a full net points to abundance, and fish also appear as conception dreams. Fish slipping away can mean a chance you must act on quickly.
It depends how it appeared
The same symbol is read differently depending on what happened in the dream.
- You caught it with your hands
- Read stronger than netting one. Caught by hand was taken as a gain made by your own doing rather than one that arrived.
- The net came up full
- Read by quantity — a season rather than a single gain, and the older books tied it to a household doing well rather than a person.
- It was a carp, or a big one
- The carp carries the dragon-gate story with it, so a large carp was read higher than a large fish — standing, not only gain.
- It slipped away
- The loss in this symbol, and the one with a note attached: read as a chance that needed moving on quickly.
- It was dead, or floating
- The caution. Read as something that has already gone off rather than something about to — a matter to check rather than to fear.
- You dreamt it while expecting a child
- A common taemong. A big fish was often read as a son and a small or many-coloured one as a daughter, but this is one of the parts families disagree on most.
