A caution
Being chased
What it means
Being chased usually reflects something you are avoiding — a task, a decision, or a feeling. Who or what chases you hints at its nature. The dream eases once you turn and face it in waking life; running only postpones it.
It depends how it appeared
The same symbol is read differently depending on what happened in the dream.
- You could not see who was chasing you
- The most common form. Read as something avoided long enough that its shape has been forgotten — the not-seeing is the point.
- Your legs would not move
- Read as knowing what to do and not being able to start — the older books separated this from not knowing.
- You hid, and were not found
- Read as a reprieve rather than a resolution — time bought, in the older reading, and time that runs out.
- You turned and faced it
- The good form, and the one the tradition points at. Facing it in the dream was read as being ready to face it awake.
- It was an animal, or someone you know
- Read as a clue rather than an accusation. What was chasing you was taken to name the thing, not to blame the person.
