What it means
Dreaming of death rarely means death. In Korean interpretation it signals rebirth — the end of an old phase and a fresh start. Your own death often precedes a big positive change; a funeral can even hint at incoming fortune.
It depends how it appeared
The same symbol is read differently depending on what happened in the dream.
- You died
- The one that frightens people and is read best of all. Dying in a dream was taken as the old arrangement ending so a new one can start.
- You died and came back
- The strongest form. Read as a turn that has already happened rather than one still coming.
- Someone in your family died
- Read as being about your relationship with them changing, not about them. Older books were firm on this, because the dream is common and frightening.
- You were at a funeral
- Counted a money dream in the older tradition — a gathering where things are given and received.
- Someone already gone died again
- Read as your own grief moving rather than anything about them — the tradition treats it as a leave-taking finishing late.
- The dead person was smiling or calm
- Read warmly — spoken of as the ancestors being at ease, and among the better signs in this whole group.
