It depends
Hair
What it means
Hair reflects vitality, image, and health. Long, thick, shining hair is a good sign of energy and confidence; cutting it can mean a fresh start or letting go of the past. Hair falling out or thinning points more to worry about strength or reputation — a cue to rest and tend to yourself.
It depends how it appeared
The same symbol is read differently depending on what happened in the dream.
- Your hair was long and shining
- Read as vitality, and specifically as how you are seen. Hair stood for reputation as much as for health in the old readings.
- You cut your hair
- Read as a deliberate ending, and read well. Cutting was the one form of hair loss here that the tradition counted as yours to do.
- Your hair was falling out or thinning
- The caution, and a gentle one. Read as worry about standing or strength rather than as illness; the advice attached was rest, not remedy.
- Your hair had turned white
- Read kindly. White hair was a sign of standing and long life in the older books, not of decline; this is one where the modern instinct is the wrong way round.
- You were washing your hair
- Read as clearing something off yourself, the same family of readings as rain, and taken as the beginning of a change rather than its result.
