Weekly holiday allowance (juhyu sudang) calculator for Korea

Korean law pays one day off a week to workers on 15 or more contracted hours who work every contracted day — the weekly holiday allowance. Enter the hourly wage and the contracted hours to see whether it is owed, how much it is, and the weekly and monthly pay with it.

How to use it

  1. The hourly wage box starts at the minimum wage. Change it to the wage actually paid.
  2. Enter the contracted hours with “Hours a week”, or choose “Days × hours a day” and enter both. Leave out overtime.
  3. If a contracted working day was missed this week, tick “I missed a contracted working day this week”.
  4. As you type, the page shows whether the allowance is owed, the allowance, the weekly pay and a monthly estimate, and says if the wage is below the minimum wage.

If something goes wrong

  • If the hours change from week to week, enter the four-week average.
  • More than 40 hours a week or 8 a day cannot be entered as contracted hours: the extra is overtime, paid separately.

An estimate under the rules stated below, for a workplace whose full-time week is five 8-hour days. Your contract and workplace may differ.

How the weekly holiday pay is worked outHow this works

Who is owed weekly holiday pay

Under Article 55(1) of the Labor Standards Act and Article 30(1) of its Enforcement Decree, an employer must give one paid day off a week to a worker who has worked every contracted working day of that week. The pay for that day is the weekly holiday allowance, 주휴수당 (juhyu sudang). Article 18(3) of the Act removes it for workers whose contracted hours average under 15 a week over four weeks.

So this calculator pays the allowance when contracted hours are 15 or more a week and no contracted day was missed. Tick the absence box and that week's allowance is 0. If your hours change from week to week, the 15-hour line is judged on the four-week average, so enter the four-week total divided by four. Contracted hours are the hours set in your employment contract; leave out overtime.

How the paid hours are counted

Paid holiday hours = contracted hours a week ÷ 40 × 8, at most 8. A 40-hour week gives 8 hours, 20 hours gives 4, 15 hours gives 3. The allowance is the hourly wage × those hours, with anything under one won dropped; the law sets no rounding for this, so that cut is this calculator's choice.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor works it the same way for a workplace where full-time staff work five 8-hour days: its example of Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 hours each (18 hours) and 10,000 won an hour gives 18 × 4 ÷ 20 = 3.6 hours, or 36,000 won. Where full-time staff work six days a week, the ministry divides by that week instead and the result differs. Contracted hours cannot exceed 40 a week or 8 a day (Article 50), so the form does not accept more.

Turning a week into a month

Monthly hours = (contracted hours + paid holiday hours) × 4.345 weeks, rounded half up to a whole hour. 4.345 is 365 days ÷ 7 ÷ 12. For a 40-hour week that is (40 + 8) × 4.345 = 208.56, so 209 hours — the monthly figure the 2026 minimum-wage notice uses. The monthly estimate is the hourly wage × those hours.

The month assumes every week is fully attended: a missed day removes that one week's allowance, not the month's. Below 15 hours a week, only the contracted hours are counted.

Checking against the 2026 minimum wage

The 2026 minimum wage is 10,320 won an hour, or 2,156,880 won for a 209-hour month (Ministry of Employment and Labor notice 2025-47). The hourly box starts at that figure, and the result tells you if the wage you enter is lower. The check compares the hourly wage only; it does not judge probation reductions or which payments count towards the minimum wage. The 2027 minimum wage, 10,700 won, applies from 1 January 2027.

Quick questions

Is there weekly holiday pay under 15 hours a week?

No. Under Article 18(3) of the Labor Standards Act, a worker whose contracted hours average under 15 a week over four weeks has no paid weekly holiday. From 15 hours it is contracted hours ÷ 40 × 8 hours of pay, at most 8 hours.

How much weekly holiday pay does a 20-hour-a-week part-timer get?

Four hours' pay: 20 ÷ 40 × 8 = 4 paid holiday hours, so the allowance is the hourly wage × 4. It is owed for a week in which every contracted day was worked; a week with a missed day has none. The hourly box starts at this year's minimum wage, so entering 20 as the weekly hours shows the week's allowance, the weekly pay and the monthly estimate at once.

Is it already in a monthly salary?

A monthly salary worked out on 209 hours includes it: 209 hours is (40 contracted + 8 paid holiday hours) × 4.345 weeks. Check how your contract sets the monthly pay; for hourly pay, this page shows the week's allowance on its own.
