Korean resignation letter — fill in and print, free
A Korean resignation letter gives your department, position and name, the date you joined, your intended last day and a reason, then the date and your signature, addressed to the company's CEO.
Fill it in here and the A4 letter updates as you type; save it as a PDF from the print dialog or download it as a Word file. A blank letter prints and downloads too, for writing by hand.
A letter form, not legal advice. If your company has its own resignation form, use that.
What the letter says and when notice takes effectHow this works
What goes on a Korean resignation letter
A Korean resignation letter (사직서) is short. The one here has a table with your department and position, your name and the date you joined, your intended last day and the reason. Below it is one sentence asking the company to process your resignation as of that day, an optional line promising to hand over your work, the date, your name with room for a signature or seal, and the company name with the addressee, the CEO by default.
The reason can be picked (personal reasons, a new job, study, health, family reasons) and prints in Korean; anything you add in the free box prints exactly as typed. If the company has its own resignation form, use that instead.
When notice takes effect
Under Korea's Civil Act (Article 660), when employment has no fixed term either side may give notice at any time, and it takes effect one month after the other side receives it. Where pay is set by period, as with a monthly salary, it takes effect once the pay period after the one in which notice was received has passed.
So when the last day you enter is less than a month after the date of the letter, the page shows a note with the date one month on. It is a note, not a block: the letter always prints, and the last day is best agreed with the company. The page also flags dates in the wrong order, such as a last day before the date you joined.
Printing and signing
“Save as PDF / Print” opens the print dialog with the A4 letter; choose “Save as PDF” to keep a file. “Word .docx” downloads it to edit in Word before printing. For a letter written by hand, “Print a blank form” and “Blank Word .docx” at the top give an empty letter with lines to write on.
The letter prints in Korean whatever language you read this page in, because it is handed in at a Korean company. You sign it on paper.
Your data, and what this is not
Everything is made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or kept, and closing the page clears it. As on every tool page here, one count is sent when you print or download: which tool and which language, with nothing from the letter in it.
This page fills in a letter and is not legal advice. Questions about notice, unpaid wages or severance pay can go to the Ministry of Employment and Labor's call center (1350).
Your department, position and name, the date you joined, your intended last day and the reason, then the date and your signature or seal, addressed to the company's CEO. This page can add a line saying you will hand over your work.
How long after handing in a resignation letter can I leave in Korea?
Under the Civil Act (Article 660), when employment has no fixed term, notice takes effect one month after the company receives it; where pay is set by period, such as monthly, after the next pay period. A last day agreed with the company is a separate matter. The page shows a note when your last day is less than a month away.
Can I get a blank resignation letter as a Word file?
Yes. “Blank Word .docx” at the top downloads an empty letter to type into, and “Print a blank form” prints one to write by hand. Both are made in your browser.
