Public holiday Long weekend Take this day off

  • Fri Jan 1 New Year's Day

Longest break: Fri Jan 1 – Sun Jan 3, 3 days.

How the days are worked out

Public holidays follow Korea's Regulation on Public Holidays as amended on 30 April 2026: Labour Day (1 May) is a public holiday from 2026, and Constitution Day (17 July) again from 11 May 2026.

Substitute days follow the same regulation: national days, Buddha's Birthday, Labour Day, Children's Day and Christmas get one when they fall on a weekend; Seollal and Chuseok when a day falls on a Sunday; and holidays that land on the same weekday as another. New Year's Day and Memorial Day get none.

Temporary holidays are declared by the government a few weeks ahead and are added here once announced. Private companies may follow their own rules for some days.

How to use it

  1. Pick the year at the top. From October the page opens on next year.
  2. Each month tile shows its longest break. Darker tiles are the good months for a trip: a break of five days or more, or one you can reach with one day of leave.
  3. Press a month to see its calendar: public holidays in red, the long weekend shaded, and the day worth taking off marked.

If something goes wrong

  • “+1 leave” counts one working day of annual leave next to the holidays, the usual way to stretch a long weekend.
  • Temporary holidays are added once the government announces them.

Quick questions

When does Korea give a substitute holiday?

The national days, Buddha's Birthday, Labour Day, Children's Day and Christmas get one when they fall on a Saturday or Sunday; Seollal and Chuseok only when a day falls on a Sunday; and any holiday that lands on the same weekday as another. The next working day becomes the day off. New Year's Day and Memorial Day get none.

Are Labour Day and Constitution Day days off in Korea?

Yes, under the regulation as amended on 30 April 2026: Labour Day (1 May) is a public holiday from 2026, and Constitution Day (17 July) is one again from 11 May 2026.

Which day of leave gives the longest break?

Each month's tile shows it: “+1 leave: n days” means taking the one working day the calendar marks gives that many days off in a row. Press the month to see which day.
