未 Goat

Kind, artistic, and quietly resilient.

Goat years make the one who keeps the peace without a word.

Why

未 (Mi), the Goat, is eighth in the cycle. It stands for the sixth month of the old calendar, the last and heaviest month of summer, and the hours from one to three in the afternoon. Its direction is south by southwest and its element is Earth, the kind that stores the summer's heat before autumn. The Goat is read as gentleness with a long memory: it does not fight for the front of the herd, and it does not forget who was kind. In Korea the Goat year is often described simply as the mild one, the sign of people who get along.

One thing to try

Give way once today on something small and watch what the other person does with the room you made. Goat energy is said to show in yielding that is not weakness, so notice whether the peace you kept came back to you.

Compare with a friend

Goat years are traditionally said to sit well with Rabbit (卯) and Pig (亥), the Wood harmony group, and to clash with the Ox (丑) across the circle. Old pairings to compare with real friends, not predictions.

How Korea says it

In Korean the Goat year is 양띠 (yang-tti). Koreans say 양띠는 순하다 (yang-tti-neun sunhada), "Goat-year people are mild," so often that Goat-year people are tired of hearing it. 순한 양 같다, "like a gentle lamb," is said of anyone who does not raise their voice.

Goats create beauty and comfort, and care for others by instinct. Gentle and creative, they carry more strength than they show. Their growth: trusting their own worth without waiting for approval.
