Quiz · from your birth date
Teto or egen?
Your chart already knows.
Korea's Gen-Z split — teto (direct, driving) or egen (gentle, attuned). Everyone else asks you questions. We read it off the yin and yang of your Four Pillars, so the same birth date always gives the same answer.
How the type is readHow this is calculated
Where teto and egen come from
Teto and egen are a way young Koreans sort people: teto, from testosterone, for the direct kind who decides and goes first; egen, from estrogen, for the gentle kind who notices first and adjusts. The words travelled to Japan in 2025 and are still being written about there.
The words grew out of a stereotype about men and women. This page does not use them that way. The rule below never looks at gender, and anyone can come out on either side. It is a game, and it says so.
Why a birth date instead of questions
Every other version asks you questions, so the answer changes with your mood that day. This one reads your Four Pillars chart instead, the same chart our free saju reading opens with, so the same birth date always gives the same type.
Classical saju has no idea called teto. What it does have is yin and yang, and that is what the page reads. The rule is this site's own, written down below so you can check your result against it.
The rule, in three numbers
Out of 100 points: 25 come from your day master, the stem of the day you were born, and go to teto if it is a yang stem and to egen if it is a yin one. 40 are shared in proportion to how many characters in your pillars are yang. 35 are shared in proportion to how strongly the rest of the chart supports your day master.
50 or more is teto. The five labels, from all-in teto to all-in egen, are 20-point steps. Your type's name pairs that side with the image saju books give your day master, such as a great tree for 甲 or a candle flame for 丁. The page shows you all three numbers it used.
The day pillar card, and two people
The card also shows your day pillar as a colour and an animal. The colour is the traditional one for your day master's element (blue, red, yellow, white, black), and the animal is the branch. 丙午 is the Red Horse. It then says how that branch meets this year's branch: the same branch, a clash, a six-combination, a three-harmony group, or none. It only names the relation and predicts nothing.
If you add a second date, both are read the same way, without a birth time for the second person, and you see which way round the two of you are. How two charts actually fit is a different, fuller reading, and the compatibility page does that.
